What To Do

Take a Hike

hike hood river girls trip

There is no shortage of hiking in and around Hood River. The Columbia River Gorge is home to dozens of waterfalls that can’t be missed and the Mount Hood National Forest provides views and serenity the whole group will love. Whether you and gals are avid hikers looking for a workout or just interested in snapping some gorgeous pictures for the Gram, there are trails for all! Here are a few of my favorites:

Hood River Mountain Loop

This moderate loop offers stunning panoramic views of Mount Adams, the Columbia River, the Hood River Valley, and Mount Hood. There are breathtaking views in every direction, wildflower-filled meadows for frolicking, and you’ll enjoyably get a workout, what more could a girl ask for? There is also a shorter version, the Hood River Mountain from Elder Road option.

Hood River Pipeline Trail

This easy walk offers a unique experience as you walk directly on top of a historic pipeline for much of the trip. This elevated path provides an interesting perspective, with the pipeline, and in some places, the Hood River, beneath your feet, adding a sense of adventure to the scenic journey. Wear a swimsuit and bring a towel to jump in the river on your way out!

Chinidere Mountain

If you are looking for a leg workout with one of the best views possible as a reward, this hike is for you. On a clear day, you can see Mt. Ranier, Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Adams, Mt. Hood, and Mt. Jefferson from the top. It is incredible! Part of the trail uses the PCT (Pacific Crest Trail) so you and the girls will always have the bragging rights of saying you hiked the PCT.

Wahkeena and Multnomah Falls Loop

Multnomah Falls is a must-see when visiting the Columbia River Gorge. This moderate loop gets you off the overcrowded beaten path that is the base of Multnomah and puts you at the top of the falls while passing a few other falls along the way. Don’t worry, you’ll still be crossing the famed Multnomah Falls bridge for photos.

Tamanawas Falls

Head south of Hood River to the Mt. Hood National Forest for one of the best hikes in the area. The trail meanders through lush forests along Cold Spring Creek, offering a serene atmosphere with the soothing sound of rushing water. As you approach the impressive 100-foot Tamanawas Falls, the trail opens up to reveal the powerful cascade plunging over a basalt cliff.

Rent an E-bike

Ebike Rental Hood River

Biking is a big deal in these parts and I suggest being a part of it. Take in Hood River and beyond on two wheels without doing all the work. There are a few places in town that rent e-bikes and even offer bike tours!

If you are looking for a leisurely ride that includes beautiful views, good food, and great wine, Rent an e-bike from Sol Rides located in downtown Hood River. They offer Class 1 ‘Pedal Assist’ e-bikes including the Trek Verve +2, helmet, and everything else you need to enjoy the ride. You can make full-day and half-day reservations. Sol Rides offers a variety of tours including rides on the Twin Tunnels to Mosier, Hood River Valley tours complete with Mount Hood and orchard views, and even wine tours that take guests to the region's best wineries & cideries.

Feeling more adventurous and want to give mountain biking a try? Rent an E-MTB from Fat Tire Farm to experience Hood River’s world-class trails without killing yourself on the uphill. Take the girls up to Post Canyon to practice riding at Family Man or down Kleeway for a ride they won’t soon forget.

Get on the Water

Hood River is known for its watersports. No worries if you’re not experienced in kitting, winging, or paddling; there are plenty of ways for everyone to enjoy the Columbia River no matter their ability and comfort level.

Paddleboarding

If you are looking for a mellow way to get out on the river with a board, standup (or sitdown) paddling might be the answer. Paddleboarding in Hood River is best on days with little to no wind, so check the local wind forecast. There are two great places to SUP at Hood River’s waterfront.

#1, The Hook. The Hook's protected inlet provides an ideal spot for both beginners and experienced paddleboarders, offering a safe environment to practice balance and technique. Hood River SUP & Kayak is located right at the Hook making it a breeze to grab gear and hit the water. For even more fun, make the easy paddle out to Wells Island. There is a small, sandy beach on the west side of the island perfect for a secluded day in the sun!

#2, Nichols Basin. The basin's sheltered waters create a perfect environment for a leisurely paddle. Slackwater Beach provides a great place to dry off and enjoy the sand when not in the water. Gorge Paddling Center is located right on the basin providing easy access to all the gear you need and even offers guided tours.

Winging

Winging Hood River

I saw winging aka wingsurfing aka wingfoiling for the first time when we moved to Hood River. It looked awkward and challenging and something I had no interest in trying. After watching it daily from the sideline for almost three years, I finally decided to give it a try, thanks to the free Weekly Wing Foil Orientation by Wylde Wind & Water. I can now say, I’m hooked! The learning curve for winging is relatively short compared to other wind sports making it more fun than frustrating. I highly recommend renting some gear and hitting The Hook!

Kiteboarding

Hood River is known as the kiteboarding capital of the US, and one of the best places to kite in the world. I'm not going to lie, it intimates me, but if you’re up for the adventure, you’re in the right place to take a kiteboarding lesson!

Hit the Fruit Loop

Fruit Loop Hood River Girls Trip

No trip to Hood River, especially a girl’s trip would be complete without hitting the Fruit Loop. The Fruit Loop is a beautiful 35-mile loop in the Hood River Valley. Stops along the loop include wineries and cideries for tasting, orchards for picking and eating, and lavender farms for smelling. There are over 30 farmstands on the Fruit Loop but here are a few of my favorites:

Grateful Vineyard

Grateful is always a must when showing off Hood River to visitors. The view of the vineyard with Mt. Hood in the background is breathtaking and is sure to leave your Instagram followers begging for more. Seasonal fields of tulips, lavender, and sunflowers just add to the Instagram worthiness. Enjoy a beer or wine flight along with some of the best pizza in the Gorge while taking in the view.

Stave & Stone Winery and Hood River Lavender Farm

Hood River Fruit Loop Winery

Kill two birds and sip some of the best local wine at Stave and Stone then walk next door to indulge in lavender delight at Hood River Lavender Farm. Make a reservation to sit in the tasting room for wine and amazing food, or enjoy a leisurely glass and live music in the garden. Complete your trip by hand picking a bundle of lavender to take home and cool off with a dish of lavender ice cream.

The Gorge White House

Always a fan favorite, the Gorge White House is a great spot for wine, cider, delicious food, fresh fruit, beautiful flowers, and views of both Mt. Adams and Mt. Hood. While the food is so worth it, the wait can be a little long. Place your order when arriving, grab a drink, and walk the orchid while you wait.

Go Shopping

Downtown Hood River is a charming hub for the shopping enthusiasts on the girl’s trip. Oak Street is lined with delightful boutiques offering something for everyone. For cute clothes, Parts & Labour is a must-visit, while Pistil offers the best hats. Book lovers will enjoy Waucoma Bookstore, a local gem with a curated selection of titles. And my personal favorite array of affordable finds, Ruddy Duck is brimming with adorable clothing and jewelry.

Take a Tour

Leave the planning up to the professionals and book a tour. There are a number of tour options in the Gorge including hiking tours, biking tours, and drinking tours!

Broder Øst's commitment to authentic cuisine and cozy ambiance makes it a must-visit for locals and visitors alike. Make sure to grab an order of Aebleskiver to share Danish Mary to drink.

Ferment Brewing is a great spot right on the river. Grab a pint, soak up the sun on their patio, and munch on some tasty small bites. Their taproom features a rotating selection of innovative brews, from classic lagers and IPAs to wild and experimental concoctions. It's the perfect place to unwind after a day of playing outside. Grab the fried chicken sandwich to eat, hazy IPA to drink, and chocolate sunday for dessert.

Double Mountain Brewery

Double Mountain Brewery is a Hood River staple renowned for its handcrafted beers and delicious brick-oven pizzas. This bustling brewpub offers a lively atmosphere perfect for enjoying a pint with friends or family. With a wide selection of expertly crafted brews, from classic IPAs to bold stouts, there's something to satisfy every taste. Pair your beer with a perfectly charred pizza topped with fresh, local ingredients for a truly satisfying meal. The Truffle Shuffle is my favorite pizza in town and pairs well with a Hop Lion.
