“We had a great spot and we really enjoyed the pet walking area. It's nice to have a place to take an active dog to play! The location was great, giving you access to Hood River, White Salmon and tons of local hikes including Dog Mountain (ouch!) Great breweries, easy access to shopping, and close enough to Portland if you wanted to venture into town. We like it so much we extended our stay for an extra week. Excellent wifi! The staff was extremely helpful and friendly, and we enjoyed watching the resident bald eagle (although we never got a really good picture of him!). Great place to stay!”
“Very nice camp, clean restrooms and showers. Pet friendly! Hot and cold running trains that run along the river. Didn't bother us at all. We enjoyed a back-in river view spot with a picnic table and shade tree.”

“Wow one of the best campground experiences we’ve ever had. Other campers were courteous and kind, the sites and bathrooms were tidy and the camp hosts Tiff and Steve were awesome. Great little swimming holes right at the campground and easy trip to the town of Hood River for supplies. We happened to be here for a special family movie night on the lawn they organized and it was super fun and special. We intended to stay for 3 nights but we stayed for 6 - can’t wait to come back!”
“Love this campground and park! My kids and I stayed here for 2 nights and had a really great time. Great location near town, orchards and close enough to great mountain bike trails. The river was really cold and fun to swim in!”

“I like this place alot. Even though its FCFS (first come/first serve) there are quite a few open spots on the times I've been- both RV and tent spots. The RV spots are listed by pad size and electric and water hookups (no sewer). Quite a few hiking trails nearby up hwy 35 (Tamawana falls, Dog River, etc) or Lost Lake. ... or take a trip into Hood River only 20 minutes away. There is a large day use area near the entrance with horse shoe pits, a covered eating area, and a kids playground.”
“Great spot for the family to camp. Wonderful playground and freshly paved roads. Great setting, and shaded spots. Close to the river. Worked out great staying for a job we had close by for a few days. No spot to dump your tanks, 7 day limit.”

“My family loves camping here! The reservoir is so beautiful and clean, and the water is crystal clear. Campsites are always clean and are first come, first served. The outhouses could be cleaned better, but thats camping. Dont forget a roll of T.P. because on full weekends, it runs out by Sunday. Lots of ORVs here because of all the trails and old logging roads. You can even take motor boats onto the reservoir.”
“Great spot for camping or a day trip. Reservoir is clear and clean, good for swimming or fishing. Small boats allowed, outhouse restrooms available.”

“Beautiful campground and lake. The water is crystal clear and they do not appear to allow powered boats on the lake. There are lovely and easy trails in the campground and around the lake.”
“We absolutely love this place. It’s so serene and peaceful. The F lot campground area is first come first served and it’s worth getting there early for your preferred spots. Either way, the lodge offers anything you missed or are craving, and the boathouse allows you to rent whatever you want or need to get on the water. They offer showers for a reasonable price too. There are trails all around the lake that connect together and there are plenty of spots to enjoy the waterfront. Don’t forget to go fishing too (day permits available). Have fun!”

“Nice and clean camp site. Water and electric hook ups are a nice perk. Highway on one side and train track on the other made for noisy night's sleep, but nothing some ear plus couldn't solve. Kids had a blast riding bikes to the other side of the highway and down to 3 waterfalls. Definitely a highlight. Starvation Creek and Hole in the Wall falls are a must see. Camp host and park ranger are also excellent!”
“I love this little campground! Spots are quite spacious, providing a sense of privacy even when the place is full. Easy access to the Columbia River and we had our fill of wild blackberries! Camp host was super nice and engaging. Only downside is the train route running through it...if you don't like sleeping through train whistles (personally, I don't mind - think the sound is comforting and romantic), this might not be your first pick. Otherwise, it has everything you need - water, power, and gray-water dumps at each site.”

“Well maintained and great camp sites. The water was clear-ish and the perfect temperature for hot days.”
Beautiful lake, and quiet campground. It is walk-in. We stayed in site 19 and it was closer to the parking lot than some sites. It also had 2 great flat tent spots. We took an easy 6 mile hike up the ridge that overlooks the lake. If you like wild blueberries, there are plenty up at the top.”

One of our favorite ways to enjoy the outdoors is dispersed camping. Or better known as boondocking in the RV world. Dispersed camping, or camping outside of designated campgrounds, can be a great way to experience the forests surrounding Hood River! Camping outside of campgrounds also means no toilets, no drinking water, no metal fire rings, and no trash service. Obviously, no electric hookups so find the best RV battery and get your solar setup. You are responsible for leaving the site cleaner than you found it and learning the skills of Leave No Trace camping before you head out.

Enjoy unparalleled solitude under star-studded skies in the Mt. Hood National Forest, waking to the crisp mountain air and the symphony of birdsong. Note that dispersed camping is limited to 14 consecutive days and up to 28 days total in a calendar year.
